Asked by Szerenyi Erika

Hello,

I am a new user of Ubuntu Linux and when I want to copy a file to the Windows partition from Linux I get the following:
Error while copying to "/media/disk". You do not have permissions to write to this folder.
How can I obtain permission?

Hi Erika.
Maybe the problem is type of partition, (NTFS) have permissions only in windows , if you create a new partition FAT you can share information LINUX-WINDOWS

Do not reformat your windows partition to fat. You will have a lot of problems with windows if you do that and may lose your files.

You can't write to a windows NTFS partition even as root. Because the ability to write to NTFS has been "experimental" Ubuntu does not enable this by default. If you want to enable this you need ntfs-3g.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions/ThirdPartyNTFS3G

Setting up a "shared" fat32 partition is another way around this, as is using an external USB mounted drive or flash drive.

I actually managed to format a "shared" FAT and it seemingly works,
although had a lot of trouble before succeeding. Nevertheless it's
done.Windows recognises and opens it without wanting to format it!
Unbelievable! A wonderful feeling to succeed with windows.
Thank you hips guys, I really appreciate it! God bless you all!
