16GB SDHC not mounting in Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Andy Scott

Kingston 16GB SDHC card will not mount in Ubuntu 10.04 UNR on my Dell mini 9 internal card reader, the card works fine in an external usb card reader or in windows, also a 1GB SD card works fine in the mini internal reader. I am quite new to linux / Ubuntu so any fix will need to be idiot proof :)

Can you boot with the card reader empty then log in, after the system has settled after logon, put the card in the card reader, wait 10 seconds then run:

dmes | tail; sudo fdisk -l

Thanks

Have done as suggested & get the following in terminal:

andy@Andys-laptop:~$ dmes | tail; sudo fdisk -l
No command 'dmes' found, did you mean:
Command 'dmesg' from package 'util-linux' (main)
dmes: command not found
[sudo] password for andy:

Also this message apears when the card is inserted:

Error mounting: mount: /dev/mmcblk0p1: can't read superblock

Thanks

Andy

I just pull it out as it's not being recognised there is no 'un-mount' facility.
It works fine in other laptops, all be it running windows, and works ok in my laptop using an usb external card reader.

If you read the dmesg uotput it either sounds like the reader is bad, the card is bad or there needs to be extra config for the module driving the reader. I'd log a bug.

Card Now working! I have re-booted with the card in and now works fine, if the card is removed & then re inserted it is not 'mounted' but if I then re-boot with the card in it is then recognized / mounted, as I am using this card as extra storage & will not be removing it very often I can live with this so should I mark this as resolved ?
Thanks Andy :)

When you want to remove this card use "Eject" and not "Remove Device". In last case, you could remove card reader!

Subject: MAKE IT RAIN!!!

Economists think it is bad, as population growth directly ties into GDP growth. They also assume a lot of infinite variables. In the real world, especially in an over-populated country, this is a good thing.

It has been shown time and time again, that a more educated society will have it's numbers naturally decline to a sustainable equilibrium.
