raring testing: need patches from linux-stable

Asked by Geoff Levand

Hi,

It seems the daily build (20130318) of raring uses the linux-3.8.0 kernel. My system (powerpc/ps3) needs patches from linux-stable-3.8.4 to fix a boot hang. I want to test raring on this platform, but am not able to. Should I wait until the kernel in the daily build gets upgraded, or should I file a bug report to get the kernel patches applied, or get the kernel updated to 3.8.4?

Hi,

I tried booting the daily build initrd with a kernel build using the mentioned patches and the system booted, so it seems missing patches are a problem.

Hi Geoff Levand,

definitely you should file a bug report about your problem.

Read here the bug report procedure (if you don't know how)
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs/

Recently I had a similar problem (Kernel 3.8.0 and Intel graphics) . I filed a bug and now it is triaged , hopefully it will be "Fix Released" soon (before Ubuntu 13.04 stable version).
Bug #1156306

I created Bug #1157450 'raring: kernel hangs on powerpc boot' for this problem.
