lightdm some indication of activity to user

Asked by Mitch Claborn

Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit
lightdm 1.2.1-0ubuntu1

We are using pam-mysql to validate users against a mysql database when logging in from the login screen. Depending on a number of factors, it can sometimes take several seconds before the login succeeds and the user is taken to their session. During that time, there is no indication of any kind to the user that anything is happening. Some of our users will try to click the "go" arrow again or press the Enter key again, even though the login process is already working - they just don't know it.

Is there any way to show the user somehow that something is going on while they wait?
