Hi Andre,

Can you please explain what you mean? Do you mean you have a resume doc on your desktop?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul thanks for the reply. I have a resume or C.V. on my desktop the
original document is in Documents. I have to change my address but somehow
can't get a program on Ubuntu to make changes in the document or C.V.

Andre,

Go to the document in the 'Documents' folder, then open it with libreoffice and make your changes. Save it in the 'Documents' folder, or another folder, and then go to the desktop and delete the link. Then go back to the document in the 'Document' folder, right click on it and select 'Make Link'...then drag that link onto your desktop.

Thanks Paul it worked as a bomb. I have one more and this is very important
as I am working in Perth Australia and my Family is in Auckland NZ. I am
trying to get my sound input on the side of the laptop to work. I cannot
skype my family as the sound test informs me. IT APPEARS YOUR SYSTEM HAS
PULSE AUDIO RUNNING. TO CHANGE SOUND SETTINGS YOU NEED TO USE YOUR DESK TOP
MANAGER VOLUME CONTROL OR PULSE AUDIO VOLUME CONTROL.

This is a bit confusing for me as i cannot find the Desk top Manager or the
Pulse control settings.
Thanks for your expertise and help.
Andre

Hi Andre

Sound Preferences are found by clicking the sound icon (like a loud speaker) on the panel, top right. You may have your sound input muted.

Some sound problems need more attention than this. If you have such a problem, can I suggest you open a new question for the 'pulseaudio' package. It is not good to ask supplementary questions on a different topic as the people with the correct expertise may not be watching for them

Tony

PS If you original question is answered, please go to

and mark it as Solved.

Probably you are using new version of Skype. The latest version of Skype does not require Pulse Audio to work. Just configure Skype to use the ALSA system instead. If not, uninstall Pulse Audio could be a solution to your problem.

Or you can even do this, open a terminal and typed: sudo apt-get remove PulseAudio
Click System -> Preferences -> Sound -> Hardware Tab. Than selected your device. Probably you can find your microphone if you're using. And click on the Input tab and find your device and click it.

Try it.

if still not working,
