Those answers are for if you installed the kubuntu-desktop package inside an Ubuntu system (or installed the ubuntu-desktop package inside a Kubuntu system). On the other hand, if you booted from a Kubuntu live CD and installed a *separate* Kubuntu system alongside your Ubuntu system (or booted from an Ubuntu live CD and installed a separate Ubuntu system alongside a previously existing Kubuntu system), then those answers do not address your situation. If this is the case, please post again (here, not by starting a new question).

It's not a separate OS. Ubuntu just uses the Gnome desktop by default, KUbuntu uses KDE by default. You can install as many differet desktop environments (Which is what Gnome and KDE are) on your system and switch between them at login. All you have to do is remove the desktop environment and it will go.

Ubuntu is a modular OS and you can chop and change between as you see fit. Don't see Ubuntu and KUbuntu as different OSes as this is wrong. What is underneath each desktop in EVERY ubuntu is EXACTLY the same and uses the same servers to update. It's like saying a car of the same make, model and year but in a different colour is different, it's not.

@actionparsnip
We really need to know how he installed Kubuntu, because if he booted from a Kubuntu installation CD and installed it alongside his Ubuntu system--an action highly consistent with viewing them as separate operating systems--then he has *two* Ubuntu systems, and sure, they're *both* Ubuntu, but the solution is still to remove one of them (i.e., the Kubuntu system, i.e., the one of the two installed systems with kubuntu-desktop installed instead of ubuntu-desktop).

Can you help with this problem?
