reconciled balance not updating during reconciliation

Asked by dlmoak

When reconciling, the "Difference" figure at the lower right of the register does not change when an entry is marked cleared, so you cannot get in balance for the reconciliation. I am using Jaunty 9.04 and KMM 0.9.2.

I am testing this in the latest version, and it works fine. It is 0.9.3. There have been several fixes for reconciliation in the latest version. You should use that one.

You can install it from a PPA. It is very easy to do.

Thanks,

I've downloaded the file and am installing (Ubuntu 9.04). After
unzipping, I have executed the following commands:
sudo apt-get install kdelibs4-dev build-essential
cd kmymoney2-0.9.3
./configure
The result of the configure command ended with

"configure: error: The important program mcopidl was not found!
Please check whether you installed aRts correctly or use
--without-arts to compile without aRts support (this will remove
functionality)."

What should i do?

Thanks,
David

You should use the PPA I mentioned.
https://edge.launchpad.net/~claydoh/+archive

Uninstall your current KMyMoney installation, then add the repository for this PPA, update and install the KMyMoney CVS package.

This is the easiest way to keep updated, and it is a lot easier than compiling, which involves adding another repository for KDE3 compatibility, and so on.

Ok, when you come back, please describe what you do, what the application is doing, and what you expect to happen instead.

Also, have you upgraded from a 0.8.x version or is this the first time you use the program?

I've installed the 0.9.3 version. The program was under the impression
that I last reconciled in May, 2009. When reconciling, the totals of
debits and credits indicated under the register matches the total
figures shown on the statement, but the difference figure on the right
under the register does not change when I mark an item as cleared, so it
says I am out of balance. I believe I was using version 0.9.2 before
upgrading. I've been using the program for about a year in total. At
this point, I just told the program to finish the reconciliation out of
balance. Hopefully when I start my reconciliation next month it will
remember the date of this reconciliation, etc.

Can you save your file as an anonymous file, and send it to me at asoliverez at gmail.com? I will look further into it, because I don't see that problem here.

Also, tell me which account in the file is the one you are having troubles with. The accounts in the anon file do not have the original names, but their ids, that's why.

sorry for the delay. I have had some real life issues and I couldn't get to it until today.

I tested your file in my version. It is the CVS version as of yesterday, but it is basically the same as 0.9.3 in that regard.

What I did was open your file, go to Accounts, double-click on the first account.
That showed the ledger for the account. Clicked on Account -> Reconcile
Then I entered the date of the last transaction, and in the ending balance I entered a balance similar to the ledger. Clicked Enter a couple of times to return to the ledger.

Then I started clicking on the C column, which marks the transactions as cleared. As I did that, the difference balance changed to reflect that.

Is there anything that I am missing? Does this happen to you in all accounts, or just this one? Also, one thing I found curious is that the statement date was a year old, I had to change that manually.

Thanks Hei Ku, that solved my question.
