Unable to setup new stock investment account

Asked by marvlowe

I'm trying to set up a investment account for company stock I own. After entering the information I'm trying to input initial transaction indicating number of shares and price when purchased. I go to investment transactions and click on New. I have no problem entering the number of shares, initial cost, date purchased, etc, but when I click on Symbol name I get a pop-up window titled "Investments" no options are listed and I'm not allowed to type anything in as a result the enter option remains grayed out and I cannot enter the initial transaction. What am I doing wrong?

What version of KMyMoney are you using? There are several changes between 0.8.x version and 0.9

Did you create the stock for that investment? In the investment view, you need to setup the stock account too. Did you do that?
From your description, I see that you created the investment account, but you don't mention creating the stock account.

I guess not, but how do you set up a stock account inside an investment account? When I set up the investment account I gave it the name of the company stock and when I open the investment account window it is the only thing listed in the select account list.

On the investment account window, right-click and select Create New Stock.
That should allow you to create a new stock account that you can later on select in a transaction.
