Hi !

you hae to modify the file association. Let's say you want to use kpdf for every pdf file. then, rigth click on a pdf file, click on the configure icon on the "Type" line, and then put kpdf as the first in the choices. In that dialog, you can also choose if you want konqueror to open the files in a separate window or to embed it. embedding is really useful. give it a try !

hipe it helps

Hi Olivier,

Thank you very much for this ... I am now, totally, a KPDF user
(much better than evince).

I didn't see a configure icon, but I was able to continue your logic
and go to the Command Line. It now opens with KPDF every time whether it
is an attachment or in my files.

So, do you want to call this a "bug"? It should be easier to choose
a default PDF viewer, shouldn't it?

Anyway, that is for the benefit for everyone else ... 'cause I am
happy now.

    Thanx again,

oops. I supposed you were using KDE. but you seem to be using GNOME (ie ubuntu and not kubuntu...)

you can then choose the program under the "open with" section obtained when clicking on "properties" for a file.

tell me if this works

Hi,

The problem is fixed, but I am not sure how I did it. I
right-clicked a PDF file, clicked on Open With Other Application and
then opened "Open With Other Application" and then clicked on "Use a
Custom Command". In the open box, I deleted a reference to photo
captions and just left KPDF. Then it worked.

But you are saying that if I need to do this again I should just go
to "Properties"?

I don't use gnome, so i can't be sure. but I think that within the properties dialog, under the "open with" section, you are able to choose the default program to open that type of file.

tell me if that works

Yes, that is it exactly. I just switched it to another viewer and tried
it out. Then I switched back the same way.

So, you are right: Properties and then "Open With" and choose one.

    Thanx again.
