sudo apt-get install hwinfo

then run:
#sudo hwinfo (this for the long listing of everything)

OR

#sudo hwinfo --short (this for the readable entry)

Here's a good link on hwinfo: http://taufanlubis.wordpress.com/2007/10/09/check-your-hardware-information-using-hwinfo-in-ubuntu/
