Can not "see" list of windows shares

Asked by John

I am running kernel 4.8.8-040808 and when I click on the network icon I get the message: Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server. The server is a Windows Server 2000 sp4
If I do nothing but reboot and load kernel 4.4.0-47 and click the network icon all the available share are listed and i can dig down thru the folders etc.
I have a procedure using cifs-utils and samba that mounts specific shares from the windows server regardless of which kernel I load and I am able to dig thru the folders with no problem
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Then why are you wanting the 4.8.8 kernel? What does it give you over the 4.4.0 kernel?

do not need anything in particular, just running the latest kernel.

Then use the kernel that works and uninstall the one that doesn't. It doesn't gain you anything but an issue with your wireless...... Simple fix really

Not really. The official kernel for your distribution from the updates works and some kernel you found online doesn't.

You can contact the creators of the kernel to make them aware but essentially you are using a 3rd party kernel. Results cannot be guaranteed
