I need to install gstreamer plugins to run mp3

Asked by Royalist

I need to install gstreamer plugins to run mp3 on Ubuntu 12.10, but am unable to fetch the plugin packages.

I am terminally ill and do not want the trouble of upgrading from12.10 at this late stage!

Any suggestions appreciated.

Saucy is not supported any more and there are no packages or updates for it, so you cannot install mp3 codecs as they don't exist anymore.

I suggest you wipe Saucy off and do a clean install of Trusty. Trusty is LTS and supported til April 2019

Hello again and thanks for your reply.

In fact I thought that I was on Quantal.

The wiping it off is what I wanted to avoid, but it seems there is no
other option. At least you have confirmed that my guess is correct.

I will have to lay off the drugs for 48 hours to clear my headd.
