11.04, Grub boot screen does not display

Asked by Fred Seemann

I upgraded to 11.4 and now find that the screen that allows me to choose which system to boot can not be displayed on my monitor.
The monitor reports that the signal is out of range and that I should change the resolution to 1280x1024. How do I do this in the GRUB loader?

I have changed the screen resolution in /etc/default/grub and then ran sudo update-grub, On rebooting there is still no display; the monitor reports signal out of range. I ran Startup Manager and changed the resolution to 1280x1024 and rebooted; same result. When I try to get a command line in GRUB nothing is displayed. When GRUB times out or if I hit ENTER, the default selection boots and runs without any problem.

Please open a bug against Grub2 (you have a button for this close to editable window).
Could you paste file /etc/default/grub in http://paste.ubuntu.com/ and provide in this thread the link to Web page.

I have pasted a copy of the file /etc/default/grub at http://paste.ubuntu.com/605895/
As for opening a bug against GRUB2: I tried but was unable to.

At top of editable text field, you have a button "Create bug report".
Could you try with classical resolution 640x480 which is known by most of display.
