Ubuntu 9.10 Boot problem

Asked by Leo Bouki

Dear Sirs,
I ve got a desktop and have installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala...and recently made all the important updates..with these a new shell was installed...I rebooted my pc successfully with the latest shell! So i searched the web and uninstalled the older shell.Every time i boot my pc i choose Ubuntu instead of Xp and then the generic mode and then i see for a while a screen (screen No1) with 2 lines that say image=...... and after a while it asks me for login name! I enter my account name and then asks for password and after all it says last login (was...that day/month/year/time....) and then goes to the account selection screen (screen No2)..So i choose my account name from the tab in the middle and then I have t enter my password again...Before the newer shell installation and the updates I used to see the (screen No1) but if I didn't enter a login name for 2 seconds it was going automatically to (screen No2)...
Linux work fine in my desktop but it is very boring the fact that i have to enter my login name and my password twice on every booting!
Ohh and excuse me for any missunderstandings, I am just new with Ubuntu...any advise would be usefull!
Thanks for your time
Yours sincerely Leo

Hi again,
problem solved itself after some reboots...now you choose only the account and enter password!

Sorry guys,
Still the same,I don't know after kernel selection it shows the black screen with the ubuntu logo, then the screen with those 2 lines and either sometimes shows ubuntu account selection, either it remains in that black screen (it is the same as the one that appears when you write in terminal "gdm stop") and is waiting to give the login username and the password and after that goes to the account selection screen...

Could you reopen question.
When you boot, you must see a Grub menu (if it doesn't appear, press <SPACE> key as soon as boot start).
1-Could you try 2nd line (recover on current kernel).
2-Could you try 3rd line (previous kernel).

Hi,
Should I make a new question, cause I can't change that one it remains solved.
Grub menu appears always!
1)I tried recovery mode on current kernel and repair broken packages or update grub...(No pkg updated or uninstalled or installed)Still the same
2)Previous kernel works pretty fine,it does the same BUT it asks for login name and after 2 seconds it moves to the account selection screen...Now with the newest kernel I notice that it remains at least 15 seconds in order to proceed to the next screen if no login name is given.
Thanks for helping
