In A Two HD, Dual Boot System, how do you remove Kubuntu 7.10 from secondary HD, hdb ?

Asked by stephenehill

I have an eMachines T2260 that came loaded with WindowsXp Home Edition. I later added another hard drive for Xp back up purposes. However I later learned about Linux - Kubuntu and put it on the second hard drive, erasing Xp from it while maintaining Xp on my primary hard drive (the original hard drive). i am running out of space on the original hard drive and since I can't share file space with Kubuntu I would like to temporarily remove it from second hard drive.

I have tried fdisk \mbr, fdisk /mbr, at the Windows DOS command prompt. Both with the same result, "C:\fdisk is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable command or batch file'.

I suggest you run the Kubuntu installer CD and, when you reach the partitioning part of the installation, choose manual and make your changes there.

Thank you draeklae for the quick response but, all I got was the following message. "No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu." Didn't matter whether I tried to Edit or Delete partition from the secondary, hdb, drive.

Howto decrease/increase/resize delete Ubuntu ext3 or fat32 or NTFS partitions

We can do all using "gparted"

Gparted must works on unmounted partitions

So please boot from Ubuntu 8.04.1 live install cd

Perform resize using the menu item "Partition Editor"

you will find "Partition Editor" item under menu System->Administration menu of Ubuntu desktop Live install cd.

The resize of partitions might take hours...

Hope this helps
