Find function/menu item in Gnome Terminal

Asked by Frank

Hi All

Searched the FAQ and Google, but can't seem to find an answer.

Is one able to search through the "scroll buffer" on a Gnome terminal? I believe this can be done in KDE's terminal window.

I connect to router, switches etc. and most times looking at the config makes it scroll back in the buffer quite a bit. Often I need to find a single string in the config. This is where the "find" or "search" function would be cool.

I found some goodies in the FAQ on logging a Gnome terminal session to a file (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+question/7131) and then searching through it, but this is not really what I am looking for. The find/search is quicker and simpler and (more importantly) ad hoc.

Please help this noob ;-)

Thanx

Hi Frank and thanks for your question.

I think that Gnome Terminal really doesn't have such a function. You could use other terminal program (like Konsole) that supports scroll buffer search.

NOTE: If this solves your problem, do not forget to mark this question as Solved. Thank you.
