Loss of "places" folder in 10/10

Asked by andrewhadyn

For the second tome I have lost access to the places folder from the desktop.
The only way to access all my docs, music pics etc, is to click on "computer" for access.
Previously when this happened, I had to reinstall the os ! Any suggestions ?
                  Regards A.H.F.

You can create shortcuts on your desktop by dragging with the ALT key depressed (you should see a ?) symbol during the drag. Upon releasing the mouse button select "make link here".

So for example, open the file manager, select your home folder, then go up a directory, then drag the folder with alt depressed then link it.

Is this what you are after?

Or try to reset the desktop panel to defaults...

Go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal and paste,

rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel

pkill gnome-panel

That should do it.

gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel

Will reset the panel to defaults, you can then build from there.
