Why does the shut down button keep disappearing on my panel?

Asked by Michelle Walker

I'm using 10.04. One day I went to shut down the computer and the shut down button was missing from my panel. In its place was my name again...it appeared twice (both of which is now gone along with the button). I did go and add the shut down button again but just now, it was greyed out. I had to delete it and re-add the button. What's going on?

i have 2 pc running ubuntu 10.04 . the older one ,the panel keep change all the time [ every thing moved from one side to other] got tired of it so i installed ubuntu tweak 5.7 ==http://ubuntu-tweak.com/ == and in the section desktop = desktop setting i enabled lock desktop panels . it ended the problem .

I had already tried locking the panels. Doesn't work in fact, right now the
icon for shut down is greyed out.
