Volume Applet Disappeared

Asked by Mannex

I tried all of the suggestions I found on LaunchPad, but still I have no volume control applet on my desktop. I was having problems with PulseAudio and Alsa, so I uninstalled Pulse, and the volume control disappeared. Any ideas?

Hi Mannex,

I don't have a volume control applet on my desktop be default either.

Try this and let me know if it works. It worked for me until I rebooted (I just added it to startup to keep it starting when I reboot)

Open up a terminal (Click applications, then Accessories, then Terminal)

enter the command in the terminal:

gnome-volume-control-applet

If that works, let us know.

You can also use the "indicator applet" to have the volume control restored...

Right click on the toolbar and click on "Add to Panel" then select "Indicator Applet"

But if you cannot get please try to reinstall pulseaudio

Interesting. Yes, it works. However, it is slightly different than the
one I had before. But, what the hell do I care. It works, right? Thanks!

Although i am a little uncomfortable saying that this is "closed" I'll go ahead and mark it as such. The reason I hesitate is that the solution was really a work-around, and the problem still persists in it's original form. In other words, I have a volume control applet that I am launching via a startup application, but I shouldn't have to do that. The original volume applet should be restored somehow. But, if I am not going to get any info on how to restore the original applet, then I will have to live with this applet. At least I have a volume control on the desktop. Thanks.

The volume control applet is now (in Lucid) living inside the "indicator" applet. Add that applet to the top panel as Marco Braida suggested and you will see the volume control.
You don't have to launch anything as a startup application.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the indicator applet is already there. I tried
removing and re-adding it. Still no native volume control. Thanks,
though.
