Before going into detail of the WLAN problem, it is requited to get your package management system corrected.

1.
DISTRIB_CODENAME=bionic
conflicts with
Hit:7 https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu eoan InRelease

Why do you have repositories for Ubuntu eoan activated if you are running bionic?

2.
For the problems with crypto keys try the commands

curl -sS https://dl.yarnpkg.com/debian/pubkey.gpg | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys F57D4F59BD3DF454

3.
Execute the command
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list.save.1

4.
What is the output of the commands

cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list
cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vscode.list
grep eoan /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list

Hi Manfred,

Thanks for reaching out regarding my question.

To be honest, I am a rookie with Ubuntu. I work mainly with windows and was
just trying to help a friend with this issue.

Could you be a bit more basic with what you want me to do?

Thank you for your time!

Open a terminal window (e.g. by simultaneously pressing ctrl-alt-t) and issue the commands (one by one)

curl -sS https://dl.yarnpkg.com/debian/pubkey.gpg | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys F57D4F59BD3DF454
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list.save.1
cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list
cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vscode.list
grep eoan /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list

Then use the terminal window's menu entries "edit - select all" and "edit - copy" and finally paste all output into the "Message:" box of your question document https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+question/692222

You mistyped several commands, why didn't you use copy and paste?
Please try again with these commands:

curl -sS https://dl.yarnpkg.com/debian/pubkey.gpg | sudo apt-key add -

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys F57D4F59BD3DF454

grep eoan /etc/apt/sources.list

grep eoan /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list

and copy/paste the output that you receive.

Ok, this looks right.

Now do the following:

Open a terminal window and issue the command

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

After asking for your password as confirmation for an administrative action, this will open an editor with the sources.list configuration file loaded.
In the editor do the following:

Scroll down to line 51 (starting with "deb [arch=amd64]")
Delete this line and the following one (which also contains "[arch=amd64]")
Scroll down to the very end and delete the last three lines (two containing "eoan" and one with "bionic")
Then save the file and close the editor.

Finally execute the commands

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get full-upgrade

and copy/paste the output into the question document that we can see whether this has cured the errors in the package management system settings.

Thanks for the help so far!

Ok, the configuration errors in the package management system seem solved, but now there are warnings and errors that are caused by something different.

1.
E: Release file for http://ci.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/bionic-updates/InRelease is not valid yet (invalid for another 1min 38s). Updates for this repository will not be applied

Apparently your system clock is a bit wrong. You should either corrrect the clock manually or even better enable automatic clock synchronization.

2.
E: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/pool/main/g/google-chrome-stable/google-chrome-stable_84.0.4147.105-1_amd64.deb Cannot initiate the connection to dl.google.com:80 (2c0f:fb50:4003:801::200e). - connect (101: Network is unreachable) Could not connect to dl.google.com:80 (216.58.223.206), connection timed out

There were network problems. I do not know what the reason is for these. Maybe they were only temporary and will dissapear.

Suggestion:
correct the clock settings and try the two commands
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get full-upgrade
again.

Do you still receive error messages?

Hi Manfred,

Thanks for ticking wth me on this. I am so so grateful!!!

Thing is the Wifi adapter still cant be found in the Wifi area of the settings window so i guess the issue is unresolved. I did as you recommended to run the two commands again and below is the output i got. Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!! Expecting to hear from you soon.

This question document is already quite long and there now is information not related to the WLAN problem.

I suggest that you mark this question document as "solved" and create a new one, again with the output of the https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WirelessTroubleshootingProcedure

Thanks Manfred Hampl, that solved my question.
