forced to use rtl8723de but must reinstall it every time ununtu updates

Asked by editordave1947@gmail.com

Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.27-3ubuntu1) ...
Prefer to use installed equipment instead of rtl8723de (but it works)
how to prevent loss of wireless after Ubuntu updates?

If you apt-pin the kernel then it won't update and you won't have to keep recompiling your driver

From which source did install the driver for the wireless device?

There is a version on GitHub that does the recompilation after a new kernel automatically.

sudo apt-get install git build-essential dkms linux-headers-$(uname -r)
git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new
sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6
sudo cp /usr/src/rtlwifi-new-0.6/firmware/rtlwifi/* /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/

Don't know how to apt-pin the kernel,
I'm a newbie, however, another person helped me.
Thank you very much for your help.

But you've used Google before... Right. Not thought to maybe have a look online using what I said to guide your searches.....?

In my opinion apt-pinning a certain kernel version should not be recommended, because this will stop receiving error corrections and bug fixes for the kernel packages.
