Problem solved - wireless network was disabled in hardware. I accessed
the bios ( pressed F2 on bootg screen) and found that a wirelesslan
network option was disabled. I changed the option to "enable", saved the
bios and rebooted. Wireless network now work fine.

thanks

Answering "solved" just puts the thread status back to "open". You need to click on the button/option "issue solved" or something similar to correctly change the thread status to "solved".

Setting to "solved" makes sure people don't waste time looking into a thread that does not require further effort.
