Asked by joseph barham

when trying to add the 802.1x security to my wired connection i get disconnected from the internet and then automatically tires to access using a wireless network. i can only re-connect when disabling the security option. why does this happen? i have ubuntu 12.10. thanks.

Wat security did you add to the wired connection exactly?

Almost all, if not all, routers do not have security for a wired connection as its assumed that if you are able to to physically connect to a router you are allowed on the network. Wifi has security WEP, WPA etc. because its not a physical connection and so needs extra measures to ensure only allowed computers (and other devices) connect.

I don't think Ubuntu has the option for using WEP, WPA or similar security for a wired connection as It is not considered necessary. Setting a password is only an option for Wifi.

If I am "barking up the wrong tree" here and you are talking about some other form of security then you will need to let us know exactly what you are trying to do with details of your system and the network its connecting to.
