Wifi Networking in Precise unstable release: is intermittent

Asked by Christopher Phelps

On my Lenovo T500 and T510 everytime I update my system to the Precise trunk I get intermittent connection to my wifi connection. It always says I am connected but I can't ping out regularly, can't update my system because I can't connect to the servers, can't install new software, and can't do any work online. This is a no go for me on the system, if I reset my wifi connection ... ie turn off the radio and then turn it back on ... it seems to work again for maybe a minute and then it doesn't work again. As such at this time I have to stick with oneiric which is still working for me. That means however that I cannot recommend Precise for anyone and I can't receive the newest software on my machine, something I pride myself in, I am completely disappointed and don't know what to do to try to fix this issue. The connection should be stable, like it is in oneiric and previous versions and it is not, this is not an issue with my laptop - AFAIK - because Linux Mint, Ubuntu Oneiric, and numerous other Linux Distributions work just fine with my network connection the only one having issues right now is the Precise trunk.

What brand of Wireless router do you have?.....log into it and change your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and the 2nd one to 8.8.4.4.. then open up network manager select the wireless tab select the network you connect to and click on edit... and then click on the IPv4 settings and where it says method.. change that from "Automatic (DHCP" to
"Automatic (DHCP) addresses only" and you will see where it says DNS servers.. type in 8.8.8.8 (space) 8.8.4.4 and click save.... Hope this works :)

No that didnt work what I eventually did was two things that were suggested ::

1. Removed the DNS setting in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
2. Removed the /etc/resolv.conf symlink -- cp the /var/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf to /etc and edited it to include 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
then I restarted the computer and all works great.

I went to networkmanager, edit connection, and edited the dns setting
in there to include the 8's and 8..4's.. And it seems to have been
working better now..
