What steps are being taken towards gaming in general for Ubuntu?

I'm curious. What steps are being taken towards gaming and online gaming for Ubuntu Linux? The rise of gaming and online gaming is tremendous, where do you see Ubuntu in all this? The world is becoming more and more aware of Linux and Ubuntu especially, what came we expect?

I'm one of the new ones to another OS besides M$ and Apple, and I like to play games, there are many of us as well.

important is to have 3d acceleration on your system.( please please install the proper hardware drivers for your videocard.)

IMHO. it depend upon the companies who develop games. although there are open-source projects (WINE) and thidparty apps to play window games on Ubuntu (cedega)

om26er so true. UT is a real native linux game, so the dev./ companies (some) are aware of linux as a serious op-system with a market....

Thanks for answering guys. Was just wondering if anyone here has heard anything, if any major companies were thinking about making games for linux as well as M$ and Apple.
