PhotoGimp has no permission to acces extern HD

Asked by Horst Seeger

I am using an extern HD connected via USB. GIMP has no problem to access the data stored there. But PhotoGimp failes because it has no permission. How can I give permission to PhotoGimp?

Transfer the data from the external drive to a folder on your desktop, then use GIMP.

1. Please look at the your question page on the web https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+question/705887 and you can see that your latest two answers were empty. We cannot help if you do not provide information.

2. How did you install PhotoGimp?
According to the Readme file in https://github.com/Diolinux/PhotoGIMP certain versions of it are incompatible with the version of Gimp that is provided by Ubuntu.

Sorry for my mistakes
I have both: Gimp and PhotoGimp running under Ubuntu 22.10. Gimp came with Ubuntu. Gimp is able to access my extern HD. PhotoGimp I have installed under snap. So PhotoGimp cannot access the extern HD.

If it is a snap package, then you may need something like https://askubuntu.com/q/1034030/1551114

Now I have gone through the steps adviced and "snap connections" now
shows "photogimp:removable-media", but software doesn't show the three
buttons "launch remove pemissions". On the other hand if I open
photogimp and want to choose Data from my HD I come through to
"Media-HD" which ist my extern HD but then it shows no content of the HD.
