Please fix flashplayer issues

Asked by Mike Howard

I have tried all the supposed fixes nothing works everybody is blaming each other for the problem what is the real cause of the adobe flashplayer no longer works it worked fine until firefox upgrade i 2 of my pc are affected they both have pci video cards and the two that work have onboard video. Flashaid add won't fix the problem. How are Linux users going to watch video and listen to internet radio going forward I don't won't to use chrome. Can't someone at lanchpad write a script to fix the problem all the fixes I see are out of relm of most linux users including myself and I been in IT for 25 years. Linux is under attack andthings like this is making people go back to windows, I been promoting Linux since 2004 but my clients are upset that no easy fix has been found so far.

I do not know the answer. That said, I would like to know exactly what is not working. I see this problem often (Launchpad questions). The reason I am interested, is on 12.04, I have never had a problem with watching videos (Youtube or any other videos). I can stream music, with no problem. Please don't think I am bragging, I really want to know the solution, as so many people have it. Thank you for any information.

You don't need flashaid or any 3rd party nonsense. You just need the correct packages installing.

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | egrep 'flash|gnas|swf|spark'

Thanks

Mike, there were no script to run, #4 only contents single commands for command line aka terminal.

> var/lib/dpkg/lock
>> is another process using it?

Please close all running package management GUIs, e.g. software-center, update-manager, synaptic, software-properties.

Please run cmds from #4 again, and we'd like to view the complete output incl. the cmd you've issued, copy and paste complete terminal output here. Thanks.

As long as the first steps aren't solved don't bother with installing anything else.
Get on with java later.

Mike, do you actually read the outputs yourself and have your thoughts on it?
When it says,
> is another process using it?

there is no sense in proceeding with other commands. When one issue isn't solved the next issue will be impossible to solve either.

Please close all running package management GUIs, e.g. software-center, update-manager, software-sources, synaptic ....

Then only work from terminal and rather copy and paste the cmd to avoid typos:

sudo apt-get purge libswfdec-0.8-0

sudo apt-get clean

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

I never had a problem with watching video or streaming music until a firefov update & a flahplayer update along with the icetea plugin 6 1.9 now firfox says its outdated and will be blocked. I have the ubuntu restricted extras installed but it doesn't solve the problem. I have tried fixes from launchpad and others but nothing fixes the problem.
