First it was through the Ubuntu update system . I went through package manager and seen i was already using ( from the upgrade ) a 32 bit 10.0.1 version of flash . When this upgrade had taken place thats when everything started messing up . hulu movies where unable to play , i can no longer see my myspace music player and view only half of some U-tube videos . After that , i went to a site that manually allowed me to install the upgrade but with a 64 bit . i followed the steps and created a new folder under my home folder under firefox , called plugins and inputted the new download . still i have no luck . Then i thought , Perhaps it is not the Flash but the shockwave plugin . the plugin is: shock wave flash 9.0 r999 .gnash 0.8.5 . I am using Firefox 3.0 cause i have to wait for the upgrade to 3.5 from Ubuntu sources . I hope this information can assist you , if you need more i will be happy to give it , so i can solve this problem . Please and Thank You for the help .

In order that firefox uses a new version all other flash apps and older versions should be removed completely, means including config files (or the purge command via CLI).
Decision has to made about which flash app to use, e.g. gnash, swfdec or Adobe (e.g. flashplugin-nonfree or for Jaunty flashplugin-installer)

e.g. search for 'flash' in Synaptic
or via CLI
locate libflashplayer.so

Firefox shouldn't be running during installation and restarted afterwards.

Since you don't mention the Ubuntu version here is the latest 32bit:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

> tried to search the synaptic package manager for libflashplayer.so

The example said:
search for 'flash' in Synaptic ##this will bring up gnash and others, marked as installed or not.

- or -

via CLI
locate libflashplayer.so
##the output will tell where the file (not package) is located, (the path indicates which package is installed).

To search package cache via CLI:
e.g.
apt-cache search flash

##This will bring up lots of package names.

Is the package installed?
e.g.
aptitude show flashplugin-nonfree
or
aptitude show gnash

e.g. to remove gnash:
apt-get purge gnash

Reference:
manpages via CLI:
man apt-get
man aptitude
