This is because you have not manually chosen something other than the default setting for sending mail. By default Evolution attempts to use sendmail, but sendmail is not installed on Ubuntu by default. Here's what you do:-

In Evolution go to Edit --> Preferences --> Mail accounts (on the left) --> Edit (button on right) --> Sending Email (tab).

Change Server Type to SMTP and fill in the server configuration (basically the server name and a username with authentication being PLAIN). This is the detail you will have received from your ISP.

I have done all the above. However; I am still experiencing problems.
My difficulties arise with server configuration,
My email address with my IP is <email address hidden>, But to get there I have to go to sbc.yahoo.com. When this page opens I enter <email address hidden>. This is the only way I can open that email. Am I doing something wrong or is this more Microsft does to keep us from using Ubuntu???????? I have tried all variations of my user name and server that I can think of. I don't know what else to do. When I hit the check for supported types, in about 10 minutes I receieve unable to contact server. Again help!!!!!!!! Thanks harry

I've found a tutorial on how to configure several mail clients for SBCGlobal, however, Evolution is not present.

In here[0] you can find the tutorial for Outlook Express, however feel free to change[1] it to any other OS/Mail client.

Hope this helps!

AT&T tells me that they do not have a setting for Evolution yet. So for the moment this problem has been resolution. That I can think of.

I sincerely appreciate the help from the Ubuntu community. harry
