Asked by runner jota

firefox does not start in Ubuntu 12.04, suddenly

When running on the terminal indicates message:

/usr/bin/which: 1: /usr/bin/which: Ci: not found
/usr/bin/which: 2: /usr/bin/which: Syntax error: ")" unexpected

I reinstalled with "sudo apt-get remove --purge firefox" and "sudo apt-get --f install firefox", but without solution

Try this

mv ~/.mozilla/ ~/mozilla-old/

and run again firefox.

IF it opens without a problem , then some plugin or extension is
incompatible with the new version of Firefox.

Thanks

I tried changing the directory that tells me and the problem remains the same, Firefox does not start and when I run it in terminal the same message.
On the other hand I have searched the firefox relationship with the file /usr/bin/which and find nothing

Try to do this. Download firefox from here:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop

Save the file. (by default to Downloads).

Then open a terminal and do

cd Downloads

tar -xjvf firefox-16.0.1.tar.bz2

cd firefox

./firefox

Started ?

Thanks

Yes, firefox is started, but only from the console and firefox directory with the command that you have shown me (. / firefox).

If I try to start it from the terminal in my home directory or from the dash still receive the same error message

I read that "/usr/bin/which" is a core file, and I may have system errors. I'll try to fix it with "sudo fsck.ext4-f /dev/sda1". What do you think?

Thanks

from live CD, of course

After trying from the live CD the command "sudo fsck.ext4-f /dev/sdaX" (and despite repaired system blocks), I still get the same error when running firefox ...

Yes , this is not a problem with Firefox specifically. This command
(which) is corrupted. I don't know how.

You can re-install Ubuntu without lose any personal data , but you will
lose all your configuration files.

If you want help , let me know.

Thanks
