Hello Erik,

as a first “workaround” you could use the pkill command in terminal to kill the firefox-process.

Example: Open a terminal and type “pkill firefox-bin”. The command also supports tab-completion, so you could also type in “pkill fire” and hit the <Tabulator> key.

You can doublecheck whether the process has been killed by using “ps -A | grep fire”.

Normally, Firefox really needs some seconds to shut down. Because of this, the process remains a time after closing the last window. But in my experience this is only for about 5 to 10 seconds. I suggest to create a new fresh profile in order to test whether the problem is produced by an addon. You can do this by starting Firefox from the console by using “firefox -ProfileManager”.

Welcome to Launchpad. Unfortunately, it seems that you need some guidance in order to use Launchpad Answers effectively.

You have just hijacked someone else's question and interfered with their ability to get help with their problem. Please do not do that in the future.

(1) If you have a problem of your own, start a new question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+addquestion

(2) If you have something to say but it has absolutely nothing to with the topic of the question you happen to be reading, don't say it in that question.

(3) If you have something to say and it is relevant to the topic of the question you happen to be reading, but it does not answer the question and it is not a request for information from the person who created the question for the purpose of making an answer to their question possible, then use the "Just Add a Comment" button.

In addition to your three posts being off-topic, you also posted them as answers (using the Propose Answer button), which changed the status of this question to Answered, making it look like nothing more had to be done to help Erik Bel, who posted the question.

I recommend that you read https://help.launchpad.net/Answers/AskingForHelp and https://help.launchpad.net/Answers/OfferingHelp carefully, then post your own question. If your question is (or you think it might be) related to the topic of adding an additional operating system to a computer that already has Ubuntu, or to the topic of removing Ubuntu from a computer on which it is installed, then please feel free to subscribe me to the question (as I may be able to help you with that).
