A transparent column has suddenly appeared on my screen, refuses to go after several restarts. Is it a hardware issue, or shall I reinstall Ubuntu.

Asked by sehjo

Was playing a game when a grey transparent column appeared on the screen. It appears at the very start on the ubuntu screen from the log in window itself.
restarted the computer several times.

What release of Ubuntu are you using...?
I don't think is Firefox related issue, try to change screen resolution.
Open a terminal form Applications->Accessories->Terminal.
Please copy and paste the result of:
sudo lspci
Type your user password when requested ( you don't see any typed char when you digit it) and then press enter.
