upgrade from 8.04 to 9.04

Asked by Myron

I have ubuntu 8.04 installed on my old computer, it is the only operating system on the hard drive. I have Ubuntu 9.04 on 2 disks one Install live CD, and Alternate install CD. How do I remove 8.04 so I can install 9.04.? How can I reformat the hard drive if I have to? I am new to Ubuntu as you can see. I would like to use 9.04 and Picasa for photography. I have a windows computer w/XP Pro installed however I like Ubuntu and Picasa and my Windows machine is loaded up and slower than Ubuntu. What I have read 9.04 is a improvement over 8.04 so I would like to try it.
As I said I am new to Ubuntu so I would need detailed instructions on the easiest way to upgrade.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Hi,
if you want to remove 8.04 anyway boot from LiveCD of your choice, installation process is self explaining, partition manager is included.
Regular case is three partitions (depending on capacity of course)
root - home - swap
some prefer extra partitions for
boot - var - etc

As it is an 'old computer' you might consider a minimal installation or Xubuntu instead of Ubuntu.
