Not able to Play streaming Audio or Video

Asked by Friend4u

Hi Guys,
I am trying to play online streaming movies and listen to streaming audio. But I can't able to do this. Here is the sites I am trying to access:

1. raaga.com (which requires java plug in for media player or real player in windows).
2. I wanted to access starfalls.com for my kids. The site saying that "Please install the Flash Player Plugin or

UPGRADE YOUR BROWSER."
Firefox version is 3 beta 5.
Let me know what else information you need.

Hi Micah,
    1. This is really problem with the Realplayer with java plugin (plugin for realplayer or mogilla?) problem (I gotrid of this problem in windows by installing realplayer and JRE). But Need to see whether it will fix my problem or not in Ubuntu? It didn't fix my problem in Xandros3.0 or fedora earlier.
regarding 2nd problem. I updated firefox browser update and it's upto date. I installed flashplayer also but didn't check for plugin?
Thanks

ubuntu-restricted-extras installs the JRE. People have had trouble with
Realplayer on Linux.

Please install the appropriate one of these for your distro:

kubuntu-restricted-extras - Commonly used restricted packages
ubuntu-restricted-extras - Commonly used restricted packages
xubuntu-restricted-extras - Commonly used restricted packages

That will install flash for you.

It's a flash site. Do you have the restricted extras installed? That
should've installed flash. Make sure you restart your browser after the
install.

Hi,
As I already mentioned in my earlier post, I can able to play only for once and then after reboot problem still exist. But I installed WINE and using windows version of it and is working fine. That is something to do with the version of Helix package Java package etc.

Friend4u, Just4info, and others,

reading several answers on the community in LaunchPad, i installed all packages starting with these names:

(for enabling Java)
   java-common, java-gjc*

(for reading streams)
   gstreamer, and these
      gstreamer-...
-alsa, -ffmpeg, -bad, -base, -good, -pulseaudio, -x

(for using ShockWave-Flash)
   swf*
   libswf*

(as alternative for totem)
   xine,
   xine-plugin*
   gxine,
   gxine-plugin*

You can install these modules with Synaptic, using the menu:
<Applications>,... <System>,... <Synaptic>,...
( Unlock this program by entering your own password )
Select the module you are installing, or FIND them by entering a word, e.g. SWF/Shockwave/Flash

After installing, you must set the defaults in other programs, e.g. in Firefox you must set the plugins that must be used.

Can you help with this problem?
