Firefox 3.0.7 Hangs on Ubuntu Intrepid (64bit)

Asked by Dave

Since running an update a couple of days ago to 3.0.7, firefox has been hanging up on my initial visit a wide variety of sites. Frequently it comes back, but only after being frozen for a minute or two. I'm unable to switch to other tabs while the offending tab gets hung up on loading a page. Is anyone else having a similar experience on Ubuntu Intrepid (64bit)? Thanks, Dave

I'm having exactly the same problem - for me, the entire system locks up while the tab loads. Not even ALT+F1 or ALT+Backspace work to try to restart GNOME. I havent had any similar problems with the 32-bit version - I'm going to try installing them in parallel to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your note, Robert. I have switched to using the 32 bit version of firefox 3.0.7 (via ubuntuzilla) and it's running fine ... no hang-ups!

What are the implications?

Thanks,
Dave

Well, flash might have been causing problems.

There were plenty of sites/pages with no flash that would hang. Could the
flash plugin cause issues on that page that doesn't use flash?
