Tesco online shopping problem with firefox 3

Asked by dc

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Tesco online grocery shop does not respond very well (intermitent but often) using Hardy Heron complete with firefox 3. Some windows fill up with garbled text and a message keeps popping up to ask if I want to download a page (which shouldn't happen). Dual booting with windows xp on laptop, also dual booting with windows me on desktop, same problem on both but xp dual boot laptop is worse. All is ok when I use windows.

after contacting Tesco customer service I have been told by them that this is a known problem for their site and they will be rectifying it soon.

I still have the problem but probably only Tesco's site upgrade will solve it.

Do Tesco have a fix date in mind for this issue?

I intend doing some investigation myself, as my wife has found FF3.0.x and tesco.com an unusable combination (Fedora 10 Beta).

This is the last and only communication from Tesco to me around the date of the original problem:"Thank you for your feedback on the Tesco.com Grocery site. As stated in your email below there are compatibility problems with the Grocery site when using the Firefox 3 browser. This has already been reported to our web development team. The reason why the issue has not been fixed is due to a new version of the site which is going to go live within the next few weeks which will hopefully iron out all these issues." (It didn't.)
I have been using Opera Browser with complete success until last week after an Opera update when I had to resort to Windows and Internet explorer to finish shopping, hoping the next Opera update which has just arrived may put things right

According to http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=683155&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15 set network.http.keep-alive to FALSE in about:config.

Seems to work, but I'll find out for sure at our next online shop.

Good Luck!
