firefox can not connect to internet

can someone help me to get firefox to connect to the internet? it states "no server found"

What site are you visiting? Can you ping the site from the Terminal window?

I know nothing about this os,but I typed ping in the terminal window and got this reply
{-LRUbdfnqrvVaA} { -c count} [-i interval} {-w deadline}
{-p pattern} {-s packetsize} {-t ttl} {-I interface or address}
{-M mtu discovery hint} {-S sndbuf}
{ -T timestamp option } { -Q tos } {hop1...} destination

The site that is being used is www.google.ca. This computer was being used in Canada and I live in the USA.

I connected to the internet on Tuesday and was able to check email page but was not able to surf the web through Firefox. Do I just need to change my home page to something else?

So Firefox is the problem,. Uninstall it and install it again.

I have tried to find out how to uninstall Firefox without success, I also have down loaded a copy of Firefox from Ubuntu's website and do not know how to install it, can someone please help me before I give up and go back to Windows? Thanks.
