alert for e-mails incoming

Doesn't evolution automatically tell you when you have new messages :)

Please elaborate, when you get a new mail, and you don't have
evolution maximised, it doesn't give you any alerts ?

when evolution is open and operating if an e-mail comes in there is no
alert or sound so I no that I have an e-mail
Is there some place that i can turn off and on the alert...
