how can I set the default to the newest instead of oldest
I send and receive over 100 emails a day. When I go to check the "sent" folder it is always defaulted to the oldest file. So virtually every time I want to check something I have just sent I have to move the scroll bar.
If I change the sort order it will place the newest on top but the scroll bar is always at the bottom and I cannot see the top files. This is extremely aggravating and should be a simple toggle to change but I cannot find it anywhere.

FewClues, what happens if you change the setting and then restart Evolution? Does the scrollbar fix itself?
Also, could you try using the options in the View menu to create a new view that has it sorted correctly?

Caleb,
Thanks for the suggestions. I have not only closed Evolution but
I've restarted Ubuntu. There is nothing in the sort menu that deals
with the scroll bar. I can have it sort by newest first, but the
scroll bar will still move to the oldest and put the newest out of
view.

FewClues, can you move the scrollbar manually to the top, or is the problem just that it starts at the bottom and you dislike that behavior? (Either way, it's probably a bug in the code, not something you could fix yourself, in which case we should bring it to the attention of the developers.)

At the section where it says date (on the top) , you will find a little V sign,
click on that it will sort your messages from the latest to oldest or oldest
to latest, depending how you set it to

Vikram, I appreciate your suggestion but you clearly do not understand
my problem. I have the sort enabled so that the newest is on the top
(sort by date) but the scroll bar goes all the way down to the oldest
message. I have to move the scroll bar regardless of the sort order to
see the newest on the top of the files.
I understand the sort completely, I want to know how to get the scroll
bar to default to newest instead of oldest.

FewClues, I am unable to reproduce this behavior, so I don't feel comfortable filing a bug report -- do you think you could do that? I believe that would be the best course of action. You may also want to contact the Evolution user's list, which is available here: http://

My apologies for not being able to focus on your question, is it possible to
send over a screen-shot. That could really help to see what you want to get
accomplished.

Well now I extend my apologies. When I went to take the screen shot I
realized that the scroll bar was acting as I thought it should. I feel
like I've just had a strange dream - honestly it wasn't changing with
the sort but now it is. I guess you can put <PEBKAC> confused
operator!

John
