can't send email through evolution

I have set out going mail to smpt server and set server to smtp.telefonica.net witch is what telefonica. tech support instucted me to do . and every time I send a email it holds in the outgoing folder and won't send

The settings are the same and working in Evolution.

Newbie to UBUNTU in UK

I am trying to use Evolution for my mail. I have set up and can receive messages from server OK - but just like this posting I just cannot find a setting that will allow my outgoing messages to transmit from the OUT-BOX. There they sit in defiance.
Can anyone help me?
It's a smpt server at TalkTalk. Tried all-sorts including the colon and channel as a suffix thus:
smpt.talktalk.net:25

System works from Windows Outlook Express OK-but not from EVOLUTION in UBUNTU

I get this response from UBUNTU/Evolution:
"Error whilst performing Operation" & "Host lookup failed smpt.talktalk.net: Name or service not known"

Any ideas? Please help. Awfully grateful!

You are so right! That is all it is. I am internally grateful to you.
Let this be a lesson to me!

I have spent days - really I have, setting up Windows Outlook Express
and Evolution - until my brain hurts. Express is OK

I was never - ever going to see it. Brain unreceptive, totally
convinced.

Let me say again, I am in your debt for saving me from a mental
collapse. A first class example of two heads being so much better than
one. {Especially mine.}
