SMTP/STARTTLS problems in evolution, will not send email, but recieves fine

Hi, I'm new to the whole linux thing, and I am running into a problem with Evolution, and trying to set up my GMAIL account. I have followed 9 different guides to a "t" and have run into the same problem each time. I can receive email just fine, but when I try to send an email, I get the following error message:

"Error while performing operation.

Failed to connect to SMTP server smtp.gmail.com in secure mode: STARTTLS not supported"

Any suggestions?

Try making your server name this: "smtp.gmail.com:587"

Try making the server "smtp.gmail.com:465" and then use SSL instead of TLS.

Hi, I had same problem. You fill in server : smtp.gmail.com:587 and next TSL is right and PLAIN and !!! did you tried fill in name of account ? For example my email <email address hidden> and I had to fill in vicha.rostislav ! You'll try and give to know :-) Ross

That did it...I don't know why that didnt work before...I might have had one of the last two things wrong...
