view of opened mail disappears

Yesterday I could double-click on an email and the email would open in a new window for viewing. The new window would display the email in HTML (if the email is formatted for HTML) and allow links to open the web browser. After updates this morning (Hardy Heron), a double-click on an email results in a new window opening, the email text and graphics appearing for a fraction of a second, then disappearing. The email can still be read in the preview pane, but not as a separate window. Also, all the selections on the menu in the window which opens upon a double-click on an email are grayed out / not available.

Is this a bug or is there some setting that changed?

This looks like a bug. I have submitted a bug report. Please subscribe to it. Mean while why don't you try thunderbird ?

The view of an email in a separate window following a double-click selection of an email in the email list is working again. There was no action that I took to resolve the problem.
