duplicate emails from ISP

Asked by Jack Vultaggio

Evolution keeps pulling emails which have already been downloaded to my system. At first, this happened once a week or so, now it has happen the daily the last couple of days... It usually occurs when I let the computer sit idle. I have always left the emails on my ISP for back up reasons. This was an intermittent problem and now occurs when I'm not on the computer for awhile. For example, right now, I am only getting new emails, not ones that were already downloaded

better:
I expect it is because you have left the emails on your ISP's server, so they are all downloaded again to your new email program.

When you set up the receiving part of your email program there's an option to "Leave emails on the server" or delete them when they have been downloaded. If you never delete them from the server, eventually it'll fill up, and your ISP may start deleting the oldest ones [check their policy].

My desktop (repository for all emails) fetches emails from my ISP, then deletes them from my ISP's server.

My laptop leaves messages on the server, so they can be fetched by my desktop.

This is still not fixed... I've noticed that when it pulls emails from my ISP as new, it is pulling old emails also? It happens whenever the computer is idle for a more than a day or so... please help

This continues to happen with multiple copies of same emails, some from many months ago, intermittently appearing as new email

I have this problem with my hotmail account. Evolution fetchs all my 800 e-mails each time I open.it. But not all times...

Cabruca, I don't think there is a fix... I've had this question on for while and no good responses.

The best solution is change to Thunderbird?

Ok Jack. It was a joke.

I have a temporary solution: transfer hotmail e-mails to gmail.

I reninstalled Evolution when my system crashed and it worked fine the first few days, this morning when I went onto the computer, I received duplicates of the email sometimes two or three of the same email, clearly this is a bug.

Once again, I had multiple emails downloaded from ISP; where it happens intermittently, this must be a bug. It doesn't happen when I send/receive? Any thoughts?

This morning I had three copies of each email that were downloaded. Doesn't anyone have an idea why this happens sometimes and not all the times. I understand the suggestions from above but that still doesn't explain why sometimes it obtains emails from the ISP correctly, sometimes it does it in duplicate or triplicate and downloads emails already downloaded previously. Please help, I really don't want to find another PIM. Thank you

I believe I have narrowed this down to duplication (or trips) of emails when I leave Evolution on in the background and when my system sleeps for a period of time.

Please help.
