I want to save encore (music writing) files as PDF files so I can share them with others.

Asked by Jindigo

I want to save encore (writing sheet music) files as PDF files anyone I send them to can open. When I "Save as" encore files and change the file ending from .enc to .pdf the file is saved but I can't open it. Document viewer says 'file type unknown application/octet not supported'. How should I turn an .enc file into a PDF.

i'm assuming that the encore files are documents files, that is, the files can be printed to a printer. if it is, you would print the file as you normally would and choose print to pdf, which is the default, as the printer. you just need to change the extension to .pdf, as the default format is .ps (which is postcript).

however, if the files are not printable and are data files, e.g. binary files, you cannot convert them to pdf.

Thank you for replying. My Encore files can be printed. My Epson CX5500
printer is too basic to have a print to PDF option and Encore files don't
have a 'export to PDF' option as does Open Office. Just changing the
extension to .pdf doesn't work Document viewer won't open and says filetype
unknown (application/octet-stream) is not supported when I do that.

I dont know what program opens .enc and I've never used it.

Though, when you are printing even if you dont have an printer. There may be a "Print To File" option.

When you print you need to select Print To File. It will ask you where you want to save the file such as "Blankfile.ps"

You could be able to save it as "MyEncore.pdf"

Brilliant. Solved. I clicked print to file and keyed in the file name.pdf and a new file was made which I can open with Document viewer.
