change pixel size of images

Do you mean to make the image bigger?

no i actually need to make the pixels smaller. right now they are 4000x3000...!

sudo apt-get install imagemagick

make a copy of the images so you have the large versions then on the images, run:

mogrify -resize '1280x1024' *.jpg

Just replace the 1280x1024 to the size you want. I assume they are jpg files. Remember bash is case sensitive so if the extensions are capitalized you will use *.JPG and so on.

basically what I really need to do is to know how to change raw files into jpegs! Thanks!

Imagemagick again. try the convert command

not sure what that is image? convert button...all I know is the first time I automatically had them go into Jpegs and now 52 or more of the photos have disappeared (good ones) and there all raw files...and as I have opened up ones I like they have disappeared right before my eyes!
