graphic format translators for ubuntu 9.04?

Asked by Henry Peters

I have some images that I processed a few years ago in Macintosh OS v. 8.01... when I was using that OS platform, using the ".stn" postfix... from basically a proprietary lossless compression scheme (& I do not, as of this moment, remember the actual name of this program... but I will continue to search out the CD for it, which I do believe I still have) but in any case, wondering if there is a graphic translation program to use to convert these (& other possible image formats) into formats so I can edit, print, using digicam, gimp, etc. in Ubuntu.

Thanks for any pointers here.

Henry

I am not aware of a direct program that works with this filetype, but to help you remember I found this lovely link about the .stn file extention (not postfix, thats a mail program...)

http://filext.com/file-extension/STN

Hi Jeruvy,

Thanks much... "Genuine Fractals" that's the program I was looking for.
I'll do a query of them (if they are still in business).

You may get results from imagemagick, I am unsure of the file type you state. the file command will let you know what it is:

file <some image file here>

you may also be able to convert it if imagemagick can translate it:

convert <some file here> output.png

you can change output.png to whatever you wish. If imagemagick understands the data then it will be converted into a PNG

Can you help with this problem?
