Error Log in CUPS

Asked by Donal Leaderf

I have upgraded to Feisty in the last few days. I now have a message that tells me that I have run out of disk space. I have very little really on my system. When I check using Disk Management to see where the space is used up I find that one file, the Error Log file in CUPS in the VAR folder has a whopping 95.6GB of space. My hard disk is slightly over 100GB. Hence the problem. How could this happen? What do? I tried deleting the file but I am not allowed.

Solutions, ideas, anyone! I'm not a command line person but I can handle it if needs be.

Help!

Thanks for your question.

I don't know why your error log is so big, did your try to read the file to know which error is reported ?
If you want to remove all the error_log cups files then you can type this in a terminal:
sudo rm /var/log/cups/error_log*

Hi Hanusz:

Thank you for your help. Your command line terminal instruction worked perfectly. The Error Log file in CUPS was deleted. Result, the disk usage now shows only 6.3GB of the hard disk in use. Fantastic result.

Why or how it happened, I've no clue! One of those computer-from-hell glitches!

Thanks again.
