Hi Jack!

Unfortunately Kodak does not provide any Linux (CUPS) drivers for your printer and did not release any specification which would have enabled someone from the community to develop a driver for it. Here are two links:

http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Kodak-EasyShare_5500_All_In_One_Printer

You would probably have to buy a different printer which works with Linux. Please note that this is not the fault of the Linux community, but rather the fault of the hardware manufacturer. If you have a bit of spare time you can write to Kodak customer support and ask for linux drivers. They will tell you that they are not developing a driver at the moment, but enough demand from their customers may change their mind in the future.

If you are searching for a compatible printer, the one made by Brother are usually fine. Before buying you should check with the openprinting database at http://openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi

Cheers, Florian
