Hello,

Check all the Brother drivers in the Synaptic Package Manager. Just time in the search, Brother.

Regards,

Allan :)

I don't understand what I should do or what to type where. Sorry, I'm not a programmer.

Hello,

Go to the System Menu and then Administration. Click on Synaptic Package Manager (it will ask for your login password). In the Quick search box type Brother and search for a similar printer.

Regards,

Allan :)

[solved] HOWTO: install Brother printer drivers in Ubuntu 10.04 or later or Mint 11.

If you were like me, the driver for your brother printer was not available when you searched for it. No worries. With the help of some very nice people on IRC i figured it out, so now you wont have to!

First off go to Brother Drivers for Linux® distributions at http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/index.html and click on Printer Driver. ctrl+F and search for your model of printer. click on it, and download the "cupswrapper" deb package. Keep the Package Installer window open as you will need it for reference in a min.

Instead of going to system tools→administration→printers, do this instead:
Go into your web browser and type http://localhost:631/ into the address bar. Under the "CUPS for Administrators" column click on "Adding Printers and Classes" and then from there click on "Add Printer". Follow the steps, and instead of searching for the driver, you are going to use your own PDD file.
Go back to the Package installer window and under the "included files" tab look for the file that ends in .PDD and ass that PDD file to CUPS. Then your printer should work.

My printer is also a scanner, and if you need to add your scanner, read on. Go bacl to Brother Drivers for Linux® distributions at http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/index.html and click on "scanner driver/scan-key tool". ctrl+f search for your brother scanner and then whatever category it falls into, such as brscan2 or brscan3 etc., go up and downbload that driver for your partiucular system(32 bit, deb, for ex.).
After it installs, there is one more step. Go to this page- http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/instruction_scn1c.html#u9.10 and add those two lines. After the restart, you will be scanning in Ubuntu or Mint!
