compiz is using quite some CPU, is there a way to debug what compiz is doing?

Asked by Leon van der Ree

When I rebooted my system, or browsing the web, compiz has the tendency to warm my laptop a lot!
it is constantly using more than 20% of my cpu for minutes, without anything happening (no fancy visual moving screen items, transparency, or anything) after some minutes compiz will get back to normal (using < 1% cpu)

How can I debug what compiz is doing during these peaks.

I had the same symptoms on my machine. My solution was to replace the Utility user interface with the Gnome Classic front end. A description of my problem and the solution can be found at the following link. There is a bunch of diagonstic stuff for most of the thread and the instructions for loading Gnome are at the bottom on Warren Hill's post:

Can you help with this problem?
